Homage to the guru! 
頂禮上師!
Here is an extremely brief and simple visualisation for reciting the Seven Line Prayer to the Precious Guru of Oḍḍiyāna. 
此為持誦殊勝上師蓮師七句祈請文的極簡觀修法。
Arrange whatever offerings you can afford before an image of Guru Rinpoche or other representations of the three kinds.[1] Then, while facing south-west, recite the prayer concentratedly and melodiously, as described in the following lines from the Prayer in Seven Chapters:
依己所能預備供品和一幅蓮師相,或能代表三種的所依物[1]。接著,面朝西南方,如同以下《七品祈願》所述,專一而優美地唱誦祈請文。
A tune of longing, poignant as an infant calling to its parents,
A sound as sweet as a guitar or flute—
Pray six times like this during day and night!
如幼子呼喊雙親那渴求強烈的音調,
如撥弦曼陀或吹笛一般的甜美音色─
晝夜六時如此這般地祈願!

If we now refer to the individual words of the Seven Lines and gloss them simply, then:
若是逐字簡單解釋七句祈請文,則:
"Hū" here is the opening, a calling out in request.

The prayer continues:

In the north-west of Oḍḍiyāna, on an island in the great lake of Dhanakośa, you were born miraculously upon the vast bed of a great lotus flower. And the moment of your birth was accompanied by marvellous, wondrous events as all the buddhas empowered you, and the ākinīs presented their offerings and offered you praise. Given that you are in essence Buddha Amitābha, you had already gained the supreme accomplishment in the past, but then you manifested in nirmāakāya form in the lotus family in order to tame disciples throughout this world of Jambudvīpa, and as you were born from a lotus, you are renowned throughout the realms of vīras[2] and ākinīs as the 'Lotus Born'. At first, in India, you benefitted countless disciples, including kings such as Indrabodhi, yogis such as Lord Dampa Sangye, and noble women such as Princess Mandarava. Then, in Tibet, you established the teachings of Buddha in their entirety, bringing unnumbered human and non-human disciples to spiritual maturity and liberation. To pacify the ills of this degenerate age you concealed millions of treasures—so numerous as to defy the imagination. Finally, in Dravira through miraculous powers and instructions you bound the tramen under oath, and worked for the welfare of many human beings, before appearing in the inconceivable pure realm upon the Copper-Coloured Mountain of Glory, in the centre of a vast blue lake in the heart of Cāmara, island of rākasas. There, in the glittering celestial palace of Lotus Light, surrounded by many wisdom and worldly sky-farers—both vīras and ākinīs—you remain even now in your vajra-like form, beyond birth and death and immune to decline and decay.

在鄔迪亞那西北角一座島上的偉大達那郭夏湖中,您神妙地誕生於一朵偉大蓮花的寬廣花胚上。您誕生的同時,伴隨著種種神妙奇異的現象,諸佛為您灌頂、空行獻上供養且作禮讚。您本質即為阿彌陀佛,往昔早已獲得無上成就,但是為了調伏瞻部洲此世間的弟子眾而示現為蓮花部的化身佛;由於您從蓮花中誕生,一切勇父和空行剎界都尊稱您為「蓮花生」。首先您在印度利益無量弟子,包括因札菩提等國王、當巴桑傑法主等瑜伽士,以及曼達拉娃公主等善女子。接著您於西藏安立完整的佛陀教法,使無數人與非人弟子達至修道上的成熟與解脫。為了平息此今濁世疾患,您埋下數百萬的伏藏法教,其數量多到難以想像。最終,您在札毘羅以神通與教言令獸首母領受誓言,並於前往羅剎所在之遮末羅(貓牛)洲其中央廣大藍湖中心的吉祥銅色山上不可思議淨剎之前,為眾多人等的福祉而有所作為。彼處,於輝耀的蓮花光聖殿中,您在許多出世與世間的勇父與空行的環繞之下,甚至到了現在都仍安住於您超越生死、無有衰敗的金剛般身相中。

Contemplating these exceptional qualities in detail, our minds will surely be captivated by faith and devotion.
仔細思量這些殊勝功德,我們的心必然會受信心與虔敬而深深打動。
Then, the prayer continues:
祈請文接著的內容為:
I will follow in your footsteps, Guru Rinpoche, and even if for the time being I don't practise the advanced path of the generation and perfection stages, still I pray one-pointedly with intense, fervent devotion. Although your form is in the land of rākasas, your compassion knows no bounds, and your wisdom is unobstructed, so come now, through your great miraculous power as swift as thought. Grant your blessings, so that here and now, at this very instant, all forms of illness, obstructing forces, harmful actions and obscurations, which affect our body, speech and mind, and all that stands between us and the magnificence of the higher realms and definitive goodness is pacified, and we may effortlessly gain all that is favourable, including long-life, merit, prosperity and the qualities of scriptural transmission and realization.
~隨尊成就我修持,祈請降臨賜加持~
我將追隨蓮師您的腳步,就算我目前尚未修持生起和圓滿次第的高階修道,我依然要一心一意、深切虔敬地向您祈求。雖然您的色身如今是在羅剎之地,然而您的慈悲無遠弗屆、您的智慧無能阻障,因此請您現在就來這裡,如心念所及一般迅速以大神通降臨。請您賜予加持,讓那些影響我們身、語、意的一切疾患、障力、惡行和遮障,以及那些阻擋我們入於莊嚴善趣和了義良善的種種狀況,於此時此刻的剎那之間皆能平息,使我們能毫無勤作而獲得長壽、福德、榮盛和教證功德等等的所有利樂。

Pray fervently, invoking the guru's compassion and inviting him to fulfil your aim.
懇切祈願,祈請上師慈悲、敬邀上師滿願。
Then, what follows is like a summary of the prayer. Since he is 'heavy' with the burden of unsurpassed qualities, 'guru' refers to the one who has special qualities as a teacher. Then, as a sign that he belongs to the padma family and was born from a lotus, we call out to 'Padma' and pray: 'Grant me all the supreme and common siddhis (attainments) without exception, Hū!' You can recite this mantra several thousand times in each session, purely and clearly, never mixing it with ordinary speech.

接著是有如祈請文摘要的一句。由於上師有著無上功德的「殷重」*,因此「上師」所指即為具有導師一般的殊勝功德者;然後,為了顯示蓮師乃屬於蓮花佛部且生於蓮花,我們向「蓮花」呼喊並祈願:「請您賜予一切不共與共同的成就,毫無遺漏,吽!」你可以在每一座中,持誦這個咒語數千次,清淨而清晰,絕不參雜任何俗人言語。
As Orgyen Rinpoche resides in the Copper-Coloured Mountain of Glory even now, when we take him as the field of merit there is no need to conclude the practice with a dissolution of the visualisation. At the end of the session, recite the Prayer for the Swift Fulfilment of Wishes (sampa nyurdrup) and dedicate the merit.
由於鄔金仁波切(蓮師)目前仍駐錫在吉祥銅色山,當我們以蓮師為福田[對象]時,並不需要於結行作觀想收攝。在每座的結束,念誦〈蓮師迅速滿願文〉(桑巴紐竹[4])並迴向功德。
The benefits of practising in this way are described in the treasure text itself:
如此修持的利益於伏藏本身便有所描述:
For children of mine who pray like this,
It goes without saying that they will have my protection,
For they will be the sons and daughters of the buddhas of past, present and future.
我的孩子們若能如此祈願,
無庸置言必能得到我護祐,
因為他們將成為過去、現在、未來諸佛的兒女們。
We can be confident about this as the Guru never lies, and it is vital that we practise without any doubt in our minds.
我們可以相信蓮師絕不妄語,心中毫無疑問而修,乃是重點。

The world can go on hating, envying, and criticizing America all they want, but if I had no choice but to choose one super power, this would be it. To all the countries buzzing to become the next superpower, I would say it won't happen in my lifetime. Can you imagine the equivalent of a single Princeton University appearing in China? Can you imagine India tackling FIFA corruption? Can you imagine Japan openly discussing racial issues? Would Russia legalize gay marriage?
Enough said to stir up all my supercilious, leftist, wooly-headed, extremist-apologist, limousine liberal friends. Now the serious business: I would like to wish long life to Chatral Rinpoche on this fifth Tibetan month Guru Rinpoche Day and I would like to request everyone to chant one seven line prayer and seven Vajra Guru mantras. Please pass it on.

The decision came against the backdrop of fast-moving changes in public opinion, with polls indicating that most Americans now approve of same-sex marriage.

第九偈:
三界樂如草頭露
須臾剎那毀滅法
恆時不變解脫果
希求其為佛子行
三界為地上的人眾、上方的天眾,以及下方的龍族。這三界中的所有眾生都貪著感官享受的愉悅。我們未能解脫,是由於貪執輪迴,因為我們認為可以透過感官的滿足而找到真實的快樂。我們很容易就能了解到瞋恨是痛苦的因,而且我們隨時都願意捨棄這種負面情緒。但是更難了悟的是:讓我們依然流轉於輪迴的真正原因,是由於我們誤信自己最終可在輪迴裡找到些許的快樂。因此,要體認到我們對於輪迴之樂的欲望,是較為困難的。我們無法遠離痛苦,是因為我們放不下這份欲望。儘管如此,不論我們多麼努力,就算能獲得所努力追求的事物,它也無法持久。當死亡來臨時,我們被迫捨棄一切。然而,會跟隨我們的卻是負面的印記,也就是為了獲得世間快樂所造下的業。
諸法無常,每一刻都在改變;猶如草尖的露水一般,沒有事物能夠長存。執著於事物的恆常性,是極為無明的。巴珠仁波切曾說:「執著於色,就有如飛蛾撲火。執著於聲,就有如鹿受到獵人的笛聲所惑。執著於味,就有如魚兒咬下魚餌。執著於觸,就有如大象陷入泥沼。執著於香,就有如蜜蜂飛入了食蟲花。」舉例來說,大象認為進入清涼的泥沼是非常愉悅的,但因牠的身軀太重,以致很容易就陷入其中,若是無法爬出便會喪命。
與此類似,我們猶如沉溺於泥沼的大象一般,認為輪迴是愉悅的。一開始我們非常享受,中間時我們經驗到痛苦,到最後我們發現無法解脫。一開始,我們相信若能獲得想要的對境,便能為我們帶來滿足。當我們獲得了之後,它卻變成痛苦的因。如果某件事的功德和過失相等,或者過失較多,那麼你就不應該去做。這是你在受用令你愉悅的事物之前所應該考慮的。譬如,要是你慎重考慮,就不會過度酗酒。只喝一點酒是無妨的,它還可能有藥效。但如果你過度飲酒而喝醉,最終將酗酒致死。如果你誠實面對,此生的許多享樂,在很多時候都是極大痛苦的因。

第八偈:
諸極難忍惡趣苦
能仁為說惡業果
是故縱遇命難時
終不造罪佛子行
下三道一切的難忍之苦,都是由我們的煩惱所造成的。佛陀並未發明或創造某種特定的信仰,而是在證悟實相之後,以悲心開示了痛苦的因與安樂的因。他教導:「若欲得樂,應如是行;若欲離苦,應如是捨。」「瞋恨的自性是地獄;愛的自性是淨土。」地獄並非某個可將你送去以便懲罰你的地方,而是瞋恨的自性製造了地獄,或者說瞋恨的自性就是地獄。事實就是如此。有時候人們會懷疑地獄是否真實存在。即便是佛教徒,有時候也會想:「它只是一種心的狀態。如果只是心的狀態,那它就不是真實的,所以也還沒那麼糟糕。」然而,儘管地獄的確並非本自存在,這個人身卻也同樣如此!如果你將此生的經驗認為是真實的,你也會以同樣的方式認為地獄的經驗是真實的。因為,只要有惡業、有我執,痛苦就是真實的經驗。唯有在獲得證悟、了悟空性時,才能了悟到六道及淨土都沒有本自獨立的存在。
此外,我們在這世間可以看見六道的各種痛苦。有些人還會經驗到地獄的痛苦和餓鬼的痛苦。一切痛苦的起因為何?痛苦的起因是我執以及由其而來的煩惱。因此,你應該觀察自心,若發現它具有瞋恨等煩惱,則未來果報一定會成熟。密勒日巴說:「下三道的根源是瞋恨,因此寧可捨棄性命也要修持忍辱。」當你了解由瞋恨所產生的痛苦時,自然會想要捨棄它。如果你不了解這一點,甚至可能會錯誤地為瞋恨找到正當的理由。地獄道由瞋心生起,餓鬼道由貪心生起,而畜牲道由無明生起。例如,有些人由於無知而飲酒、吸毒,毀了自己的人生——這會造成無明的習氣,導致投生於畜牲道。
業分為外和內。外在的業是指外在的活動。有人可能會想:「我沒殺人,也沒偷竊,所以不會有任何過失。」但是內在的業更為重要。即使外在沒有造作惡行,但是內在卻只想著自己而沒有悲心,便將累積惡念,有如日夜不斷落下的雪花。如果我們一直隨順煩惱,那麼即便歷經無數劫也無法解脫——而這僅僅是由我們此身所造的業。因果業力是真實不虛的。

第七偈:
自亦束縛輪迴故
世間神祇能救誰
由此依止不欺者
皈依三寶佛子行
我們不應該尋求世間神祗的庇護,原因是他們本身尚未從痛苦中解脫。他們可能很有能力並且很了不起,但這只是多種業力暫時成熟的果報。由於他們本身尚未去除痛苦的真實起因──煩惱,便無法為我們提供免於痛苦的究竟庇護。唯有已然超越痛苦者,才能保護我們免於痛苦。佛陀已獲得恆久的寂靜與安樂,遠離了一切苦及一切苦因。因此,佛陀有能力幫助我們究竟離苦。而離苦的方法是佛法,也就是佛陀所教導的方法。如果遵從佛陀的教導,我們自己也能成佛。雖然佛法包含八萬四千法門,但其精髓只有一個,也就是菩提心。
為了在佛法的道路上有所進展,我們便需要仰賴已經走過此道路、並有能力在道上引導我們的旅伴。這個旅伴就是僧寶。皈依三寶能使我們免於痛苦,因為三寶教導我們何者應取、何者應捨。如果我們依教奉行,我們將獲得保護,而從這個角度來說,我們其實是在自己保護自己。因此,究竟而言,我們仰賴內在的三寶。當我們了解自己的心其實已具足三寶,便能夠遠離痛苦。內在的佛寶是你自己的正念覺性,內在的法寶則是慈與悲,而如果能將兩者融合而修,你的心就是僧寶。由於皈依的意涵是於究竟上皈依悲心,我們便得以免於痛苦。大乘皈依戒的要義即是思惟:「寧捨身命,不捨菩提心。從此刻起直至證得勝妙菩提,我將不離智慧與悲心。」
